Wednesday, 26 August 2020_With over 100 000 confirmed cases of Covid-19 since the start of pandemic, Catalonia hit a grim milestone this week prompting the region's president to issue tougher restrictions on social interaction while warning residents to brace for tough weeks ahead.
Catalonia has expanded mass testing in recent weeks in a bid to detect and limit the asymptomatic spread of the virus. Testing for Covid-19 in the pop sites is open to all ages except in this neighborhood in the south of Barcelona, which triggered confusion and resentment among residents.

Quim Torra announced Covid control measures that include mandatory masking for students over 12, classroom size reduction to 20 students. and a mass testing campaign that hopes to target 500 000 students and staff over a period of two months.
While school directors in Catalonia say they welcome the steps taken to secure a safe reopening, some are urging authorities to address other concerns such as the supply of face masks and hand sanitizers. Others want to know whether their schools will be disinfected in time before reopening.
