Wedesnday, 19 August 2020 (YJC)_ as the sign of the beginning of Muharram, the largest flag of Iran will be raised in Taleghani Park of Tehran to express a symbolic massage.
As the first night of Muharram is the time of the ritual of “Salute to Muharram” the largest flag of Iran will be uplifted in Taleghani Park of Tehran.
The flag in question will take the place of the previous one on Thursday, August 21, with the attendance of the Mayor of Tehran, the Head of the Islamic Development Organization, as well as the chairman and members of the Islamic City Council of Tehran.
Muharram is the first month of the Islamic Calendar and the month of the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (PBUH) – the third Shia Imam – and his loyal companions at the Battle of Karbala in the year 61 AH (680 CE).
The general meaning of the adjective Muharram means "banned” and it is one of the four sacred months of the year during which warfare is forbidden.
During this month, millions of Muslims mourn to the martyrdom of Imam Hussein, by gathering in mosques and honor the anniversary of the Martyrdom.
Due to the spreading of Coronavirus, this year the mourning and commemoration will be held with special health protocol.
