Sunday, 16 August 2020_Residents queued up since the early hours of Saturday in front of this testing site in the north of Barcelona to get tested for Covid-19. Regional health authorities have rolled out massive screening in this neighborhood in a bid to break the chain of transmission.
Authorities say they want to target 800 residents, a third of the overall population in this neighborhood with a high positivity rate. The test, which are free of charge will be carried on all ages over a period of two days.
Spain's 17 autonomous regions have stepped restrictions in the wake of new infections. the Health Ministry has ordered a national ban on smoking outdoors when minimum distancing is not met. Experts argue infected smokers could blow droplets that carry the virus and may put public health at risk.
The race is on against Covid19 in Barcelona where the challenge for health authorities is to identify and isolate as many positive cases as possible in order to keep up the pace with the virus.
