Monday, 03 August 2020_US President Donald Trump meets with John Yoo, a law professor at the University of California, Berkeley, who provided a legal rationale for the torture in the US so-called war on terror.

Yoo told the Las Vegas Review-Journal on Saturday that he met with Trump in the Oval Office for about one hour.

He arrived at the White House through an entrance not readily visible to White House press corps members Thursday morning.

“He was upbeat and energetic,” Yoo said, adding that Trump was not “Nixonian in the bunker and paranoid and dark.”

Trump posted a favorable tweet about Yoo’s new book, “Defender in Chief: Donald Trump’s Fight for Presidential Power.”

In the book, Yoo explains why he did not vote for Trump in 2016 and how he has changed his mind about him.

“Trump campaigns like a populist but governs like a constitutional conservative,” he argues in the book.

Yoo was one of the attorneys who wrote a memo defending US military torture methods including waterboarding under former President George W. Bush.
