Saturday, 18 July 2020_Health authorities in Barcelona are urging resident to shelter in place in a desperate effort to slow the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. A significant number of clusters have been reported across Catalonia urging authorities to step up restrictions measures.

Barcelona Residents urged to stay home as COVID-19 cases spikeFour months after Barcelona residents were first asked to stay home to prevent the spreading of the Corona virus, a new call was issued by health authorities Friday to limit movement except for going to work or carry essential activities.

Catalonia's health minster pleaded with residents to show more restraint and cancel week-end travel plans as positive coronavirus cases keep rising threatening to overwhelm hospitals.

Barcelona's metropolitan area has reported over 33 clusters of COVID-19 in the past few days with confirmed cases jumping from 164 to 458 according to the regional ministry of health.

Now residents are urged to go back home and stay indoors and it's a tough pill to swallow after three months of total lockdown but it's everyone's health that's at stake.

Barcelona residents and small business owners have shown a remarkable resilience vis-à-vis the fast evolving situation, albeit the financial and psychological cost.

Restaurants, bars will have to scale down service to a 50 percent capacity, Social clubs, health centres Cinemas, museums will shut down. Stores, libraries and non essential businesses will remain open but customers will be allowed in by appointment.

The news measure will be in place for 15 days soon after they are published in the region's official bulletin and pending approval by Spain's Justice.
