Wednesday, 08 July_Iran’s security is interrelated to that of Iraq despite the enemies’ efforts to undermine the historical relations.
That’s according to Iran’s ambassador in Baghdad. Speaking to reporters in Tehran, Iraj Masjedi thanked Iraq’s new Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi for his role in helping expand relations between the two neighbors, saying Kadhimi’s government has the support of all Iraqi political groups, and his appointment has resulted in security and stability in the troubled country.
The Iranian official praised the huge volume of bilateral trade between the two neighbors and said Tehran would do anything under the updated trade agreements to streamline and simplify the process of exporting energy. He also said he was pleased that the two countries were considering an agreement on the abolition of visas.
Iran plays an important role in Iraq's reconstruction, and helped its neighbor defeat the terrorist group of Daesh when other neighbors looked the other way. Each year millions of Iranian pilgrims visit the holy cities of Najaf and Karbala, supporting the economy through religious tourism. The main areas of trade between the two countries are the construction, food and industrial sectors.
Iranian government and military officials have always maintained in their meetings with Iraqi counterparts that they attach great importance to Iraq’s independence, stability, sovereignty, and integrity. They have also said that Tehran will continue to stand beside the Iraqi government to help establish security and stability throughout the region.
