Tehran 06 July_The US House-proposed sanctions against Russia are “illegal” as they are based on false media report that Moscow has colluded with the Taliban to have American soldiers killed in Afghanistan, says an American analyst.

US sanction on Russia ‘illegal’, report on Russia bounties to Taliban ‘pack of lies’: AnalystStephen Lendman, an author and political commentator in Chicago, made the remarks in a phone interview with Press TV, while commenting on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s call for more sanctions targeting Russia’s intelligence and defense sectors.

In a controversial report, the New York Times, citing an unnamed source, claimed that a top-secret unit within the Russian military intelligence, or the GRU, had allegedly offered monetary rewards to Taliban-linked militants to kill American soldiers and other coalition troops in Afghanistan.

US President Donald Trump tweeted that “nobody” had ever briefed him about such a report by the “Fake News” New York Times, calling on the daily to name the anonymous source for its story.

Moscow has vehemently denied the allegations, calling the article fake news. The Taliban likewise have denied having had any deal with the Russian intelligence services.

Pelosi has criticized Trump for his failing to read a written briefing on the issue and to seek to improve ties with Russian President Vladimir Putin despite US intelligence suggesting Russia was allegedly working to kill US and allied soldiers.

“We must restore those sanctions and we must act upon them,” Pelosi added.
