Wednesday, 24 June_After 44 people reportedly tested positive for COVID-19 at a building complex in Berlin Friedrichshain, residents from the area reacted to the news on Tuesday.

Berliners react to COVID-19 spike at building complex in FriedrichshainSome residents had feelings of "fear," since they belonged to the vulnerable category, as others voiced concern that "some do parties in the parks and in the compounds.''

A total of 37 households have been affected in the building and are reportedly set to be placed under quarantine amid the COVID-19 spike. According to the district spokesperson, a number of children were among the positive cases as schools and day-cares have been informed to prevent further outbreaks.

As a result of the recent COVID-19 outbreaks, the Berlin authorities have agreed to fine people who do not adhere to COVID-19 protective measures such as wearing face masks inside shops and whilst on public transport.
