Maliki thanks Iran in meeting with Shamkhani

Tehran, YJC. Iran’s national security official has made an official trip to Iraq.

Secretary of the National Security Supreme Council of the Islamic Republic of Iran made a trip to Iraq on Saturday in order to discuss the country’s latest developments.

Ali Shamkhani met with the Prime Minister of Iraq as part of his meetings with Iraqi officials.

In this meeting, the Iraqi PM Nouri al-Maliki expressed his gratitude for Iran’s spiritual support of the Iraqi people and government.

He maintained that the electin of the new Parliament Speaker of Iraq is a highly important step for the political life of Iraq which is going to have a great impact on the country’s political development.

Pointing to Iran and Iraq’s many common features, the Prime Minister of Iraq stressed the need for the countries to engage in more intensive cooperation.

Prior to meeting with Nouri al-Maliki in Bagdad, Shamkhani visited Najaf to meet some of the country’s prominent religious leaders including ayatollah Sistani.
