Saturday, 20 June_London Marathon organizers say that they have not given up hope of staging the event on October the 4th, despite the cancellation of the Great North Run, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

London Marathon organizers refuse to give up on October eventEarlier this week the iconic half-marathon event, the Great North Run, which had been planned for September was called off because it was deemed impossible to hold the race while social distancing measures in the UK remain in place.

This led to speculation that the delayed London Marathon which was postponed from April to October, will also follow suit.

However, the event organizers urged runners to maintain their fitness, saying that they are still working to come up with innovative ways to socially distance the event.

Almost 43,000 runners took part in the 2019 London Marathon, with the elite races won by Kenya’s Eliud Kipchoge and Brigid Kosgei.
