Tehran, 03 June_Iran Energy Ministry says losses in the country’s electricity distribution network has been cut to below 10 percent, a first in the history of the country and a major achievement when it is compared with other developing nations in the world.

The Ministry said in a Tuesday statement that electricity loss across the entire Iranian distribution network had declined 0.7 percent year on year to stand at 9.76 percent on March 19 when the last Persian calendar year ended.

The statement said that a loss of below 10 percent in Iran’s distribution gird is a first for an industry that has a history of one and a half century.

It said the figure was lower than those recorded in Brazil, Turkey and Mexico and many other countries in the world.

Iran began to implement repairs and changes in its distribution network in 2013 when losses recorded across the grid was 14.83 percent.

The energy ministry said the 0.7 percent reduction in annual power distribution loss reported for the past calendar year helped Iran save €240 million in investment for building new power plants.

It said that the figure means that Iran reduced gas consumption for electricity generation by 500 million cubic meters over the past year while it prevented the release of one million metric tons of carbon dioxide.
