Tehran, YJC. Catherine Ashton seems to have rather liked the dress Iranians made her.
Hamid Qobadi, Secretary
of the Fashion and Dress Organization Workgroup in interview with Mehr News
Agency pointed to the Iranian dress made for the High Representative of the
Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy for the European Union Catherine
Ashton and said "The initiative was given by a number of designers in the
workgroup, and it was warmly welcomed.”
He added "In the end,
Mitra Tamjidi, a veteran designer for dress carried out the task of designing
Mrs. Ashton’s dress as a private sector job. Finally, the dress was posted to
Mrs. Ashton in the last month of last year [Iranian calendar].”
"With the historical and
cultural background of Iran, we believe that fashion design can serve as one of
the best tools to introduce the Iranian art and culture to the world,” he said,
adding "The dress which was to be designed for Mrs. Ashton was meant to be a
classy, distinguished work, a blend of the Iranian art and history. The dress
is completely Iranian, from fabric to sewing. As far as I know Mrs. Ashton has
welcomed the design with great zeal.”
Qobadi stated "Mrs.
Ashton’s dress was produced in a non-governmental process. The Fashion and
Dress Organization Workgroup rendered the spiritual support that was needed.”
Providing comments on how
much the dress has cost he said "I believe that the dress cost something between
1.5 to 2 million Tomans [roughly $500-700], but all in all it is a
distinguished dress. Of course if it were to be presented in an international
arena it would have cost much more.”
