Head of Iran’s National Library in interview with Fars news agency said "Far from all conventional international calculations of the day, Imam Khomeini saw Salman Rushdie as worthy of death, thereby issuing the order of the guardianship. This is moderation itself. Imam Khomeini’s statement on Salman Rushdie is the very moderate policy by which he gave the message to the world that day that we would not compromise anyone in relation to the principles of Islam, the holy prophet or the imams. This is our red line. It was what he said, ‘If you challenge our religion we will challenge your entire world.’”
"This is our red line and that is what the idealism of religious leadership is. But it was at that very point of time when all European ambassadors left Iran and our relations with the world grew utterly out of shape,” meanwhile Reza Salehi Amiri maintained.
He further added "Our young ones have to know that idealism is the characteristic of every leader, and that realism is the characteristic of managers; and that is moderation itself.”
