Iran’s Secretary of the Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution, Saied Reza Ameli, has called for the formation of a joint committee working against the COVID-19 pandemic in a letter to various world religious leaders.

We're all in this together, Iranian official writes to religious leaders for joint push against COVID-19“A joint committee should be formed of world religious and major social movement leaders seeking a way to help the oppressed people of the world during these difficult times facing the coronavirus,” Ameli wrote in a letter published on Sunday.

Citing religious teachings to “prefer for others what you prefer for yourself," the senior cultural official stressed that “the priority of all should be supporting those infected by COVID-19 and providing international support for one another”.

Ameli described the coronavirus outbreak as being reminiscent of the “oppression by the system of hegemony and capitalism that has caused worldwide starvation, social inequality and oppression”.

“Our days before the COVID-19 were also coronavirus-stricken; the coronavirus of dark minds which for years have caused imperialism, destruction and social discrimination,” he added.

Ameli pointed that the COVID-19 disease makes no distinction in its victims, revealing “the reality that we are all aboard one ship”.
