TEHRAN, Dec 18_US President Donald Trump has written a letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, threatening to end the impeachment proceedings on the eve of the final vote in the lower chamber of US Congress.
TEHRAN, Young Journalists Club(YJC)_ Trump on Tuesday accused Democrats in control of the House of an “unprecedented and unconstitutional abuse of power” in his first personal correspondence with Pelosi on impeachment.
“It is time for you and the highly partisan Democrats in Congress to immediately cease this impeachment fantasy and get back to work for the American People. While I have no expectation that you will do so, I write this letter to you for the purpose of history and to put my thoughts on a permanent and indelible record,” wrote the president in the six-page letter.
Trump called the effort a “coup,” repeating points he has already brought up on Twitter.
“This is nothing more than an illegal, partisan attempted coup that will, based on recent sentiment, badly fail at the voting both. You are not just after me, as President, you are after the entire Republican Party,” Trump said. “History will judge you harshly as you proceed with this impeachment charade.”
The president also accused the Democrats of subverting democracy in the United States.
