TEHRAN, Young Journalists Club(YJC)_The ministry said on Friday that it conveyed Turkey's dismay over the measure.The US Senate on Thursday unanimously passed the resolution, a historic move that infuriated Turkey at a time of mounting issues in the already problematic relations between Ankara and Washington. The nonbinding legislation had already passed the lower House of Representatives in October in a 405-11 vote.
Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu on Thursday called the vote a "political show", adding that "it is not legally binding and it has no validity whatsoever."
"#US Senate Resolution is nothing more than a political show. It is not legally binding and it has no validity whatsoever. Those who want to exploit history for political ends are cowards unwilling to face the truth," Cavusoglu said on his Twitter account right after the Senate’s vote.
US President Donald Trump has sought a closer relationship with Turkey and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan, but the US Congress has been united in its opposition to Turkey’s recent policy actions.
Republican senators have been angered with Turkey’s purchase of the S-400 missile system from Russia, which Washington says pose a threat to its F-35 fighter jets and cannot be integrated into NATO weapon systems.
