Tehran, YJC. Following William Hague’s announcement that the British Embassy in Tehran will be reopened Iranian officials are concerned with how the embassy will pursue its activities.
Spokesman of the National Security and Foreign Policy
Committee of the Majlis of Iran pointing to recent decision by the UK to reopen
its embassy in Tehran said "The Islamic Republic of Iran as well would like to
be in good relationship with all EU countries. But, the UK government must have
received the message from our nation that its embassy will have to attend its
diplomatic duties only.”
Hossein Naqavi Hosseini, Varamin representative to the Majlis,
added "The Islamic Republic of Iran is a regionally powerful country. European countries
know that without Iran, they will not be able to play a role in the Middle East
either in political or in economic terms.”
"It is certain that if any embassy which would intend to
interfere with our national affairs the nation as well as the government will
show response. So, we hope that the UK government will reopen its embassy in Tehran
having received that message,” he stated.
