TEHRAN, Young Journalists Club(YJC)_The anonymous staff member made the remarks in a new book to be published later this month under the title A Warning.
The book is a follow-up to an opinion piece The New York Times published last year, in which the author claimed to be “part of the resistance inside the Trump administration.”
“I am not qualified to diagnose the president’s mental acuity,” the author writes in the 259-page book, according to a review by The Washington Post.
“All I can tell you is that normal people who spend any time with Donald Trump are uncomfortable by what they witness…He stumbles, slurs, gets confused, is easily irritated, and has trouble synthesising information, not occasionally but with regularity.”
“Those who would claim otherwise are lying to themselves or to the country.”
The Justice Department has sent a letter to the book’s publisher, Hachette, asking for information to help identify the author. However, the publisher responded it would provide no information beyond calling the author a “current or former senior official.”
The author also likens Trump to a “12-year-old in an air traffic control tower pushing the buttons indiscriminately” as planes try to avoid a collision.
The author, although favors the removal of Trump, is opposed to doing so through impeachment proceedings or by using the 25th amendment.
This would cause “further disunion,” he says, adding instead he hopes Trump is not re-elected.
Democrats launched an impeachment inquiry in September after a whistleblower alleged the Republican president pressured Ukraine to investigate his main Democratic rival, former US vice president Joe Biden.
