TEHRAN, Nov 1_United States Congresswoman Katie Hill (D-California) has resigned, blaming the “double standards” and "misogynistic culture” as the reasons for her leaving.
TEHRAN, Young Journalists Club(YJC)_"I am leaving but we have men who have been credibly accused of intentional acts of sexual violence and remain ... in the Oval Office," Hill said in her final speech on the House floor on Thursday.
In her speech she slammed the "gutter politics" that had forced her to resign, while the US President Donald Trump, who was a “sexual predator”, remained in power.
“I am leaving because I didn’t want to be peddled by papers and blogs and websites used by shameless operatives for the dirtiest gutter politics that I’ve ever seen,” she said.
She called out the hypocrisy in forcing her to step down, while keeping Trump in the Oval office. “A woman, couldn't remain in Congress and yet President Trump, a man who 'brags about his sexual predation' stays,” she said, adding that since the allegations of her 2 extramarital relationships had emerged, she's been holed up at home ... in fear for her life.
She said the nude photos of her that went online last week were without her knowledge and consent. “The right-wing media … [are] distributing intimate photos of me taken without my knowledge let alone my consent,” she said.
She said in her final act as a lawmaker she had voted on behalf of all American women for the impeachment of Trump.
"Today as my final act I voted to move forward on the impeachment of Donald Trump on behalf of the women of the United States of America,” Hill said.
The vast majority of representatives believe Trump abused his power as the US president by linking the delivery of US military aid to Ukraine to a favor that would lead to his personal gain.
Lawmakers believe Trump jeopardized US national security by asking Ukrainian President Volodymr Zelenskiy to "find dirt" on Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden and his son, Hunter, to help him win the 2020 presidential election.
