Tehran, YJC. Sayyad II is one of the recent missiles produced by Iran’s defense industry with similarities to some American types.
Sayyad II is a new development of the Iranian defense
industry. Although it follows Sayyad I in name, there are no similarities in
appearance or in internal parts.
While Sayyad I is a missile 10.8 meters long, weighs 2,326
kg, and uses two-stage propellant, the first solid which is used as accelerator
and the second liquid used as fuel for the main engine, Sayyad II is a slender
object with one solid propellant.
It seems that Sayyad II is modeled on the American missile
the standard RIM-66, also known as SM-1, with touches of locally conscious
considerations and the like.
The missile is about 20 to 25 cm longer than the American twin
which makes it look more like rather modern samples.
Sayyad II is a mid-range, high-flying missile whose range
seems to be much more than Sayyad I.
It enjoys a hybrid guidance system with an independent target
and follow option.
The Army Air Defense Base commander has stated that Sayyad
II has been highly successful in targeting small flying objects.
Besides similarities sit has with the Patriot both in
appearance and function, and the fact that they are both designed to defend
fixed strategic facilities, Sayyad II is launched from a launcher much similar
to Patriot’s.
