TEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) -Mohamed Zahran, chief of National Authority for Remote Sensing and Space Sciences (NARSS), affirmed that the mini-satellite, which will be used for research purposes, was sent to space on Saturday.
Cube-Sat will be used to test space systems developed by the Egyptian space agency.
It is one kilogram in mass and costs around EGP 10 million.
Zahran noted that the satellite was designed, programmed, tested, and made with 100% Egyptian minds.
Moreover, all the technical tests of the satellite (CubeSat) were in Egypt and they were sent to be confirmed in cooperation with the Japanese Space Agency and then transferred to the US for launch.
The Falcon 9 rocket was launched yesterday from Cape Canaveral, Florida, with a US space agency CRS-18, containing 2.5 tonnes of equipment, including the Egyptian satellite to the International Space Station.
Another satellite of the same kind will be sent to space within the coming two months, Zahran added.
He also stressed that there is a plan to start working on a project for a new satellite of the Nile Basin countries led by Egypt after hosting the African Space Agency.
