Zarif returns home after south America, Africa tour

TEHRAN, Jul 26 - Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif wrapped up his ‘fruitful diplomatic trip’ which included New York for a United Nations conference and then Venezuela, Nicaragua, Bolivia and Senegal.

Zarif returns home after south America, Africa tourTEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) - The Iranian foreign minister and his accompanying delegation arrived in Dakar on Thursday morning and held meetings with a number of top Senegalese officials.

In a post on his Twitter account, Zarif said he held “important talks” with Senegal’s President Macky Sall, Foreign Minister Amadou Ba, and Parliament Speaker Moustapha Niasse on bilateral relations, “emphasizing highest value we put on relations with African nations.”

At the conclusion of the trip on Thursday night, the top Iranian diplomat said, “On my way back to Tehran after fruitful diplomatic trip -to the UN in NY, attending NAM conference in Caracas; visiting Venezuela, Nicaragua, Bolivia, and finally Senegal.”

After taking part in an annual meeting of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) in New York, Zarif visited the Venezuelan capital of Caracas to attend Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) foreign ministers’ meeting.

He also met with Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and First Vice-President Delcy Rodriguez.

The Iranian top diplomat then visited Nicaragua where he held separate meetings with senior officials, including Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega, President of the National Assembly Gustavo Porras Cortes, Foreign Minister Denis Moncada and President of Central Bank Leonardo Ovidio Reyes Ramirez.
Zarif had also traveled to Bolivia in the last leg of the tour of Americas before flying to Africa.
