TEHRAN, Jul 14 - European Union Foreign Policy Chief Federica Mogherini said the EU supports Iraq's proposal to hold a peace conference to ease tensions between Tehran and Washington.
TEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) - Mogherini made the comment in a joint press conference with Iraqi Foreign Minister Mohammed al-Hakim during an official visit to the Iraqi capital Baghdad on Saturday.
"We support completely the idea of a regional conference that Iraq is proposing and the EU is fully behind that and fully ready to support this idea," Mogherini told reporters, Xinhua reported.
A statement by the Iraqi Foreign Ministry said the two sides also discussed ways to promote bilateral ties between Iraq and the EU.
Mogherini stressed, "The EU is continuing to work with Iraq to achieve the goals set by the reconstruction conference held in Kuwait in February 2018 in order to provide a better future for the people of Iraq”.
Mogherini also held separate talks with Iraqi President Barham Salih and Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi who expressed Baghdad’s willingness to resolve crises and establish peace in the region via dialogue.
