Tehran, YJC. Former Lebanese Interior Minister says things are looking bright for Iran and Saudi Arabia to improve their relations.
Former Lebanese Interior Minister Bishara Mirhaj who was speaking to Fars news agency pointed to the Saudi Arabian Minister of Foreign Affairs’ invitation of his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif on a trip to Riyadh and said "Right now the time has come for Tehran and Riyadh to discuss regional affairs.”
He added "Such a measure by Riyadh was expected, because Iran has always tried to preserve its diplomatic ties with Riyadh.”
"Regional circumstances seem favorable for Tehran and Riyadh to grow intimate. When the West and the US have adopted negotiations as an approach, it seems reasonable if Arab countries such as Saudi Arabia also take such an approach in order to lay grounds for solving regional issues such as the Palestinian case,” Mirhaj added.
Also providing comments on the possible effects of growing
relations between Tehran and Riyadh he said "There is no doubt that one of the
greatest things to follow from such relations has to be sought in the Syrian case,
because the two sides have much dispute about it. So any proximity between Tehran
and Riyadh will facilitate a political approach to the Syrian crisis, because the
military approach to the country is not considered.”
