TEHRAN, Jul 2 -Every US president “lies to the American public, and often with disastrous results,” according to Myles Hoenig, an American political analyst and activist.
TEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) -Hoenig, a former Green Party candidate for Congress, made the remarks in an interview with Press TV on Tuesday while commenting on US President Donald Trump’s latest statement.
Trump on Tuesday claimed he won "EVERY debate" against Democratic presidential Hillary Clinton in the 2016 election campaign, despite polls and focus groups indicating he lost all three.
"As most people are aware, according to the Polls, I won EVERY debate, including the three with Crooked Hillary Clinton, despite the fact that in the first debate, they modulated the sound on me, and got caught," he wrote on Twitter. "This crew looks somewhat easier than Crooked, but you never know?"
“Every president lies to the American public, and often with disastrous results. Kennedy campaigned against Nixon on the lie of a missile gap with the Soviet Union, which resulted in an arms race that lasted for decades. Johnson lied about the Gulf of Tonkin incidents which led to the Vietnam War,” Hoenig said.
“Nixon had a secret plan to end the war, which was to expand it and force the Vietnamese to sue for peace. Reagan lied about his and his administration’s role in the Iran-Contra scandal. Both Bushes lied us into wars with Iraq. Clinton lied about Kosovo and of course his sexual power play over an intern. Obama lied about Libya and Ukraine, resulting in bloodbaths. But never have we had a president who lies nearly every time he opens his mouth,” he added.
“CNN and other new agencies have documented over 3000 times that Trump has lied. As all presidents use hyperbole, such as everyone loves them or they’re doing the best that any president has done, but to say left is right, up is down, and actually believe it, is frankly unbelievable,” he noted.
“This latest lie that he won all three debates against Clinton is just another example. Maybe in his eyes he won, but if you go by polling after the debates, he lost. Although Goebbels would say if you say a lie over and over again it’s soon believed, in this case with Trump it’s not believed but accepted as well, just another lie, except for that small minority that thinks he speaks the gospel truth,” he said.
“As all previous presidents’ lies have resulted in wars, as well as other bad domestic policies, the result of Trump’s never ending lies is that whoever follows him will be able to use a monumental lie and say it is for national security, and get away with it. One lie (probably for war) as opposed to 3000 seems miniscule, but a lie to promote an agenda continues to degrade this country’s moral and ethical authority, even if it’s not on the Trump scale of lies,” the analyst concluded.
