TEHRAN, Jun 28 - The US and its Western allies have been “demonizing” Iran to justify an attack against the country and threaten Tehran to follow their globalist agenda, a writer and researcher in Washington says.
TEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) - “In recent years we have seen consistent posturing from the West in terms of the demonization of Iran in the Western controlled media,” Walt Peretto said during an interview with Press TV on Thursday.
“It is clear that the West, led my US rhetoric, has been seeking an excuse that they can sell to the public to justify an invasion of Iran,” Peretto said.
“They have tried the nuclear angle to no avail and they have tried sanctions, which has fallen short; so about the only options left are a false flag event like 9/11 or just outright invasion after a saturation of rhetoric and false narratives, he added.
Tensions between Tehran and Washington escalated again last week after Iran downed a US Navy RQ-4A drone inside Iranian airspace over the Persian Gulf.
US President Donald Trump said the following day that he had initially authorized airstrikes against three targets in Iran but called them off 10 minutes before launch.
This is not the first time that the Trump administration is threatening Iran with military action as a result of heightened tensions between the two sides over the past few weeks.
Trump stepped up his anti-Iran rhetoric after pulling out of the 2015 Iran nuclear deal in May last year and immediately launching a campaign of “maximum pressure” to force Tehran into negotiations on its ballistic missile program and growing regional influence.
In addition to several rounds of sanctions that have targeted Iran’s economy, most notably it’s oil exports, Trump has also sent troops and military equipment to the Persian Gulf region to counter what it calls “threats” from Tehran.
"Since before he was sworn in as president, Donald Trump has been openly hostile toward Iran while openly praising his backers in Israel,” Peretto said.
“In recent weeks, the US faction of this globalist putsch, has tried to paint a picture of Trump as using restraint, especial when Iran recently shot down a US drone over disputed waters,” Peretto argued.
“This is likely a psyop to portray Trump as restrained and contemplative---so that when the US does strike, the people will not attribute this decision to any notions of hotheadedness or whim.”
