TEHRAN, Jun 23 - A senior Iranian lawmaker, who is a member of the Executive Committee of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), highlighted the important role of parliaments in boosting relations and interaction among nations around the world.
TEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) - Parliaments originate from peoples and this makes parliamentary diplomacy a platform for dialogue among nations in line with efforts to boost interactions among governments, Jalali said at a meeting with IPU President Gabriela Cuevas Barron in Tehran on Sunday.
“Sometimes, world countries in different regions have problems and conflicts that can be solved by tapping the parliamentary diplomacy’s capacity,” he added.
The Iranian lawmaker further emphasized Iran’s role in international and regional equations and said the Islamic Republic, as a secure and stable country, plays a major role in resolving regional problems.
The IPU president, for her part, said Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani has played an important role in forming multilateralism in the IPU and supporting the union’s affairs.
She called for the continuation of the policy by the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The IPU is an international organization that brings together representatives of parliaments to promote contacts, coordination and exchange of experiences among parliamentarians.
It has standing committees on Peace and International Security, Democracy and Human Rights, United Nations Affairs as well as Sustainable Development, Finance and Trade.
