TEHRAN, Jun 20 - Rifts and feuds between senior members of the royal family in Britain have further deepened as Prince Harry and his wife Meghan are to split from the charitable foundation they share with his older brother Prince William and his wife Kate.
TEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) -Kensington Palace said on Thursday that Harry and Meghan, officially known as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, will set up their own charitable foundation later this year.
The palace said that the Royal Foundation, active for a decade now and run by William and Kate, will remain the main charity organization associated with the British royal family.
The announcement is the latest to come from a spate of reports and analysis in the British media over the past year about a deepening split between the brothers and their spouses.
Meghan, the American wife of Harry who gave birth to a boy in May, has been subject of harsh criticism in the pro-monarchy media who claim the non-white former movie star, now 37, is causing a rift in the royal family by not fully respecting their manners.
In a first official sign of such a rift, Harry and Meghan announced last year that they were moving home to the royal family’s Windsor estate from a cottage in the grounds of Kensington Palace, where William and Kate live.
The Sussexes also relocated their staff and offices from Kensington Palace to Buckingham Palace earlier this year.
Commentators said that the Thursday announcement on Royal Foundation meant that the couples were fully divided now.
However, the Kensington Palace said the launch of a new charity by Harry and Meghan was in line with changes that “are designed to best complement the work and responsibilities” of the two families.
William and Harry are sons of Prince Charles, the first in line to the British throne currently held by Queen Elizabeth II. Many still know them for their mother, Diana, who was purged from the royal family in the 1990s when she was becoming extremely popular due to her growing activism.
