TEHRAN, Jun 13 - Sheikh Isa Qassim, the spiritual leader of Bahrain’s Shiite majority, will deliver a speech at an international conference on the Islamic Resistance due be held in Iran’s central city of Qom in coming weeks.
TEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) - The second edition of the conference titled “the Youth of the Resistance” will be held in the holy city in the next Iranian month (June 22 – July 22).
The gathering will commemorate the martyrs of the Bahraini revolution and discuss a range of issues, including “the death of the deal of the century”.
Sheikh Qassim is slated to deliver a speech at the international conference, which will be attended by young guests from more than 60 countries.
Sheikh Qassim, also the spiritual leader of Bahrain’s main Shiite opposition group, the al-Wefaq National Islamic Society, has been an outspoken critic of the Manama regime’s policies.
His home village of Diraz has been under what human rights activists have called a continuous police blockade since the Interior Ministry leveled accusations against the prominent cleric and revoked his citizenship.
Sheikh Qassim is one of the hundreds of people stripped of Bahraini citizenship since 2012.
