Tehran, YJC. Marine Commander says in a few months Iran will be unveiling its most recent destroyer named Damavand.
In May 2012, Iran slipped
a destroyer into water which was then called Jamaran2 for it was a higher
version of the previous Jamaran. Later on it was to change name into Damavand.
It is longer than
Jamaran but weighs less and is rigged with more equipment and arms.
It is capable of
simultaneously targeting air, surface, and underwater objects. It is also
equipped with cruise missile systems, torpedo launcher, 76 and 40 mm canons,
radar processing systems, and tactical surface and air radars.
Iran’s Marine Commander Rear
Admiral Habibollah Sayyari said that in a few months, Damavand is going to be unveiled
and handed over to the north fleet which covers the Caspian Sea area.
