TEHRAN, Jun 1 - At least 79 people have been injured and two others reported missing in three huge explosions which occurred at a TNT plant in Dzerzhinsk in central Russia, health ministry says.
TEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) -The explosions, whose shockwaves damaged several nearby buildings, took place on Saturday at the Kristall TNT production factory in the city of Dzerzhinsk, in Nizhny Novgorod Region of Russia, Sputnik news agency cited a statement by Russia's Healthcare Ministry as saying.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the blasts were caused by a breach of the technological process, the report added.
Videos circulated in social media showed a huge plume of smoke hovering over the city, situated about 400 kilometers east of Moscow.
Authorities have already declared an emergency situation in the panicked city.
Russia's scientific and research institute Kristall, founded in 1953 and part of the state-run corporation Russian Technologies, provides scientific, technical and technological support for work related to the production of explosive materials, mostly used in mining, as well as their safe transportation and utilization.
This is not the first time blasts take place in Kristall factory. Back on April 4, an explosion destroyed one of its one-story structures. It took an hour to extinguish the raging fire. However, the incident left no casualties.
In August, a much deadlier blast happened in the plant, killing five workers.
