Iran to provide for part of Azerbaijan military needs

Tehran, YJC. High-ranking official says Iran’s defense ministry is finding a market in Azerbaijan.

Fars news agency reports that Head of the Armed Forces General Staff Hassan Firouzabadi who was speaking in the sidelines of his meeting with the Defense Minister of Azerbaijan on Tuesday said "In its major foreign policy the Islamic Republic of Iran has prioritized friendly, comprehensive relations with Muslim and neighbor countries. Fortunately while on a trip abroad, Mr. President invited the President of Azerbaijan Mr. Ilham Aliyev to Iran who in return invited Mr. Rouhani to his country.”

"That was when a very good opportunity was created for different sections of the country to rapidly improve their relations. During the late Heydar Aliyev we used to have good relations with the Republic of Azerbaijan and did much in strengthening and securing there,” he added.

In the past ten years, the defense ministers of Iran and Azerbaijan have had numerous meetings and cooperation plans, he stated, adding "The Republic of Azerbaijan meets part of its needs from the defense industry of Iran.”

Providing comments on his meeting with the Azeri Defense Firouzabadi stated "In this meeting we emphasized expanding cooperation as well as the willingness of the armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran to launch training programs, friendly meetings, as well as technical service which will result in providing more arms for the Republic of Azerbaijan.”

"An exhibition of Iran’s defense industry was launched which the Azerbaijan Minister of Defense visited and got to know Iranian products and the ones which they need. He also had a meeting with the Iranian Defense Minister where they made positive agreements,” Head of Iran’s Armed Forces General Staff maintained.
