Iranian, Chinese diplomats discuss plans for peace in Afghanistan

TEHRAN, May 14 - Ranking diplomats from Iran and China met in Tehran to weigh plans to help the Kabul government establish peace and stability in Afghanistan.

Iranian, Chinese diplomats discuss plans for peace in AfghanistanTEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) - The Chinese Foreign Ministry’s Special Envoy on Afghan Affairs, Deng Xijun, and his delegation held talks with Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Abbas Araqchi in Tehran on Monday.

In the gathering, Araqchi emphasized the role of regional countries in helping the Afghan government achieve a lasting peace agreement.

The two sides also reviewed the latest political and security developments and the ongoing peace efforts in Afghanistan, the Foreign Ministry’s website reported.

Highlighting the importance of peace and stability in Afghanistan, the two diplomats stressed the need to support the Afghan peace process under the Kabul government’s supervision.

Araqchi and Xijun also highlighted the need to develop cooperation in this regard, considering the mutual interests and concerns of Tehran and Beijing in relation to Afghanistan.

The meeting was held within the framework of regular consultations between Iran and China on the issue of Afghanistan.
