Tehran, YJC. Araqchi says he will be no alternative for Iran’s ambassador to the UN.
Deputy Foreign Minister in Legal Affairs in response to
reports that he is being considered as an alternative for Iran’s choice Hamid
Abutalebi as ambassador to the UN said that Abutalebi is still the choice.
Abutalebi who was introduced as Iran’s permanent ambassador
to the UN was denied visa by the United States due to a plead by a number of
former workers of the US embassy in Iran who said he had been a militant member
of the 1979 hostage crisis, demanding him barred from the states.
"It is not true that I am chosen as Iran’s representative to
the UN,” Araqchi stated in interview with ICANA, adding "The diplomatic system
considers no alternative for Abutalebi in the UN. Currently he has been
introduced as Iran’s ambassador to the UN and there is no decision to replace
him.”
He stated "News reporting that I am going to replace
Abutalebi in the UN are not correct. The problem about Abutalebi is going to be
pursued via legal mechanisms.”
