Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida agreed Sunday with his Turkish counterpart Ahmet Davutoglu to begin at an early date preparatory talks for a bilateral free trade agreement, according to the Japanese Foreign Ministry.
Kishida asked for Turkey to ease and eventually abolish the radiation testing that has been carried out on Japanese food products since the 2011 Fukushima nuclear plant crisis, and Davutoglu replied that the two countries should continue negotiations on the issue, the ministry said.
Meeting after the 12-party ministerial talks of the Non-Proliferation and Disarmament Initiative ended Saturday, the two also exchanged views on the situation in Ukraine, Syria and East Asia, it said.
