Tehran, YJC. Head of Iran’s parliamentary delegation has rejected Cronberg’s second invitation to Europe.
Head of the European Parliament delegation for relations with Iran in a
phone call to Iranian counterpart reinvited the Iranian parliamentary
delegation to Europe.
Tarja Cronberg arranged a phone call with Iran’s Kazem Jalali with the
cooperation of the Iranian embassy in Belgium on Friday.
"I will do my best to prevent any disruptions in the bilateral relations
between Iran and the EU. There were issues, however, that lead to the recent
resolution,” Cronberg stated.
Stressing that she and her team had made great effort to moderate the
resolution she pointed out that nothing new has been done about Iran’s human
rights.
Head of the European Parliament delegation for relations with Iran also
added that Iran has been highly cooperative in fighting smugglers which is
going to be influenced as the Iranian parliamentary delegation cancel their
trip to Europe.
Expressing sorrow over the anti-Iranian resolution and the aftermath,
she urged the Iranian parliamentary delegation to make their trip to Europe in
order for "ill-intenders to fail in spoiling Iran-EU relations.”
Jalali in turn thanked Cronberg and her team for efforts to expand
mutual relations.
He then pointed to the recent EP resolution and said "The resolution
adopts a harsh tone on human rights in Iran and the content surpasses the framework
of mutual relations.”
Pointing to recent developments in relations between Iran and the EU he
stated "We imagined that the EP had realized the new circumstances in Iran and
would use such an understanding to strengthen mutual ties.”
In response to the rejection of her invitation, Cronberg warned that
cancelling the trip is likely to be used by "ill-intenders” in the upcoming European
Parliament elections.
