Iran’s Siamand Rahman claimed a gold medal in +107kg of the IPC Powerlifting World Championship on Friday.
On the final day of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Powerlifting World Championships in Dubai, UAE, Rahman, gold medallist at the 2012 London Paralympics Games, claimed a gold medal and set a new world record of 285.5kg.
His countryman Mansour Pourmirzaei, who lifted 265kg, won the silver medal in the weight category.
Bronze medal went to Iraqi Faris Al Ajeeli with 240kg.
In youth section, Iran’s Meysam Motaghian won the gold medal with 175kg.
In 107kg, Iran’s Ali Sadeghzadeh won a silver medal after the Iranian lifted 231kg.
Pavlos Mamalos from Greece won the gold with a lift of 240kg.
Azerbaijan’s Elshan Huseynov lifted 230kg and won the bronze medal.
In youth section, Iran’s Mahdi Sayadi won a gold medal and set a new world record of 167kg.
The 2014 IPC Powerlifting World Championships, ran from April 5 to 11 in the UAE, brought over 330 athletes from nearly 60 countries together.
