TEHRAN, Apr 21 - A senior Iranian lawmaker called on the Foreign Ministry to observe a parliamentary bill that requires legal retaliatory action against the US, including formal complaint at international courts to receive compensation from Washington for Iranian victims of chemical weapons.
TEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) - Speaking to Tasnim, Chairman of the Iranian Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Heshamtollah Falahatpishe said the legislature has already passed a law on retaliatory measures vis-à-vis the US’ hostile policies.
He said the law requires the administration to claim compensation for Iranian victims of chemical weapons and for damages to the regional nations done by the US violation of human rights.
The parliamentary measure also entails legal action to seek compensation for the deaths of people assassinated by terrorist groups supported by the US government, Falahatpishe added.
He said 70 American companies had been providing chemical weapons to the former Ba’athist regime of Iraq in the war against Iran in the 1980s.
According to the legislator, the Foreign Ministry has been obliged to give biannual reports to the Parliament and lodge complaints against the US at intentional tribunals.
Earlier this month, Falahatpishe said his colleagues have decided to table 14 motions as part of a strategy to counter the hostile measures.
According to the motions, the administration, ministries, and executive organizations are required to carry out policies to deal with, foil, and publicize the US’ belligerent measures, he added.
The chairman of the commission said all organizations will have their respective duties under the planned motions, for instance, the Ministry of Information and Communications Technology would deal with US cyber-terrorism plots or the Ministry of Medicine will cope with bioterrorism threats.
On April 8, US President Donald Trump designated the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) a foreign “terrorist organization”, marking the first time the US has formally labelled another country's military a terrorist group.
Responding to the move, Iran’s Supreme National Security Council immediately declared the US as a state sponsor of terrorism and US forces in the region terrorists.
The SNSC said it has put CENTCOM on its terror list as a “reciprocal measure” against the US “illegal and unwise” move.
