France vows to continue trade with Iran despite IRGC designation

TEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) - Jean-Yves Le Drian in a press conference on Friday said that the EU-Iran relationship is based on the nuclear deal.

France's Foreign Minister noted that European Union-Iran relations are within the framework of EU regulations and EU policy towards Tehran also depends on the nuclear deal framework.

He made the remarks in response to a question about US designating the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist group and his views on future economic activities of French firms and companies in Iran.

"After US's unfortunate withdrawal from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and the sanctions imposed on Iran, the EU decided to save the agreement to encourage the country to stay committed to the nuclear deal," Le Drian added.

On Apr. 08, US President Donald Trump designated Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) as a “terrorist organization.

The Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) has a key role in fighting the US-backed terrorist groups in the region.

The IRGC is providing advisory assistance to fight the Takfiri-terrorist groups in Iraq and Syria, following official requests from governments in Baghdad and Damascus, an action that is by no means appealing to the president of the United States, Donald Trump.
