Tehran, YJC. Jafari says the IRGC must expand its range of concerns beyond defense issues.
Major
General Mohammad Ali Jafari, commander of the Islamic Revolution Guardian Corps
speaking in a conference on Saturday said "The demands of the Supreme Leader are
so that the IRGC must not restrict itself to the military-defense sphere,
because the monopoly system has adopted a new countenance.”
He asserted
"The IRGC’s real responsibility is to defend the Islamic Revolution. In fact
the IRGC has to look on what platforms threats are formed against the Islamic
Revolution so that it may get fully ready to meet them and perform its missions
on time and unremissively.”
Pointing
out that the IRGC has to be ever-changing and up-to-date, Jafari said "The real
threats against the Islamic Revolution are the soft ones in cultural, social,
and political arenas, a policy which the Supreme Leader calls the cultural
camisado.”
"In
soft threats, the main objective is to penetrate the hearts of people, which is
mainly done through the press. The IRGC has to prepare itself to meet such
threats,” the IRGC commander stated.
