TEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) - US National Security Adviser John Bolton has warned of tougher sanctions on North Korea if it does not scrap its nuclear weapons program.
Bolton made the new threat in the wake of a second summit between President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un in Hanoi, Vietnam, which ended inconclusively in February.
Marcus Papadopoulos, publisher and editor of the Politics First, told Press TV on Wednesday that North Korea and the United States have been in a “bitter standoff” for half a century. Therefore, he added, it is going to take “a very long period of time” to “resolve that standoff.”
The analyst played down “unrealistic expectations,” arguing that authorities in both countries were not going to reach a solution on a range of different issues in one summit or more.
“There are just two options for America and North Korea. Either they remain in this bitter standoff definitely or they continue talking and by talking there is always the possibility of achieving a breakthrough, but that will only come, if it does come, it will only come after a prolonged period of time,” Papadopoulos said.
