TEHRAN, Feb 26 - A decision by the British government to impose a full ban on the activities of the Lebanese resistance movement of Hezbollah is a shortsighted move, says a commentator.

TEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) - UK Home Secretary Sajid Javid said on Monday that the British government would designate Hezbollah a “terrorist” entity as of Friday subject to the approval of the parliament.

Shabbir Hassanally, an activist and Islamic scholar, told Press TV on Tuesday that, “It is very sad, [and] it is very infantile really in terms of geopolitics. It shows a lack of insight [and] a lack of foresight on the part of those who have made this decision, because all it does is further isolate the British government.”

Hassanally said the decision “further puts the British government into an axis where it is an orbit around the Zionists and around the Americans.”

The UK itself has licensed over £4.7 billion worth of arms exports, including missiles and fighter jets, to Riyadh since the regime's deadly invasion to Yemen began on 2015.

Britain has also been providing combat intelligence and target data to Saudi Arabia over the course of the war, which has killed thousands of Yemeni civilians and put millions more on the verge of famine.

The war is being led by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the kingdom's de facto ruler, who wishes to reinstate Yemen’s fugitive former president, Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi, and destroy the Houthi Ansarullah movement.

The Saudi-led war has also taken a heavy toll on the country’s infrastructure, destroying hospitals, schools, and factories. The UN has already said that a record 22.2 million Yemenis are in dire need of food, including 8.4 million threatened by severe hunger.
