A political analyst from London believes that lawmakers in the British parliament are beginning to loosen their positions on what course the country’s imminent withdrawal from the European Union should take.

UK politicians loosening positions on Brexit: AnalystTEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) - “There is a loosening of positions in the House of Commons,” said Dr. Rodney Shakespeare in an interview with the Press TV on Sunday, adding that the general mood in the parliament was in favor of a pro-EU outcome for Brexit.

The analyst said such a shift in attitude toward Brexit was clearly visible in the main opposition Labour Party, whose leader Jeremy Corbyn has decided to back the idea of a second referendum on Brexit.

Shakespeare said critical party thinking and discipline has been a main obstacle in the way of the majority in the Commons to express their views on Brexit. He added that such a discipline was the main reason for nine Laubor lawmakers as well as three Conservative Party members to resign from their parties over the past week.

“It is known that the majority of members of parliament are actually Remain members of parliament,” he said, adding, “Defections from the two parties were the result of the stress coming on Remain members who feel the whole thing is going wrong.”

Shakespeare said defections helped loosen everything in the Commons and enabled the majority to come to the surface and demand a second referendum on Brexit.

He added, however, that if a referendum is agreed, there would be two choices for the public in Britain, namely to endorse the Brexit deal negotiated by the current government or to approve the option for Britain to remain in the EU.

The analyst reiterated that it is almost certain that the Commons would vote to rule out the no-deal Brexit in the upcoming weeks while there would also be a “political maneuvering” to ask for a delay in Brexit.

Shakespeare said despite EU assertions that an extension to Britain’s membership in the bloc beyond March 29 would not be possible, Brussels would grant a delay on Brexit if the chances of a move toward European position increases in the British parliament.
