Tehran, YJC. María Poumier says Western audience is withheld real, ‘sacred’ heroes in cinema and is instead given false ones.
Filmmaker María
Poumier, born 1950, France, is known for her pro-Palestine activities.
In
interview with Tasnim she said "Naturally all filmmakers want to be
independent. Escaping all the pressure is difficult. Some times developing
interesting ideas all by yourself is also difficult. Some enter the field
without having any interesting idea. Iran does good to develop cinematic
novelties, which shows that Iranian artists are in step with modernity and
current trends in terms of form and artistic technology.”
As
you know, in the 60s in Cuba and in all of Latin America literacy was much in
vogue as an important issue. Educating people to get rid of their misery and
teaching them how to read and write. A lot of campaigns were launched which
UNESCO also supported. Right now there is this big revolution to reach intellectual
independence and gain the minimum spiritual freedom through videos. Everything is
shown on the internet in the form of still and motion pictures. So helping the
youth and nations to form an independent cinema is to save them.”
