TEHRAN, Feb 03 -An American political analyst says that US foreign policy under the administration of President Donald Trump is in total “disarray.”

Trump’s foreign policy in total disarray: AnalystTEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) -E. Michael Jones made the remarks in an interview with Press TV when asked about the US' announcement of developing a new low-yield nuclear warhead.

On Monday, the US National Nuclear Security Agency (NNSA) confirmed that the first production unit of the W76-2 warhead was in production at the Pantax Plant in Texas and would be delivered to the military by the end of 2019 fiscal year.

This followed President Donald Trump’s order last year to equip the Pentagon with tactical weapons that could be used in more realistic combat scenarios.

“This comes at the time when the whole foreign policy of the United States is in a state of complete disarray largely because of Trump’s unmitigated support of Israel and inability to set its own agenda in light of a deep state,” said Jones, a former professor in Indiana.

He said that the announcement also came at the same time when America’s top intelligence chiefs, at a hearing at the Senate Intelligence Committee, contradicted some of Trump's most fundamental foreign policy claims.

The intelligence officials told the congressional committee that Iran was not developing nuclear weapons and that the nuclear threat from North Korea persisted, contrary to what Trump has claimed.

The intelligence officials also said China and Russia pose the biggest risks to the United States, and are more aligned than they have been in decades as they target the 2020 presidential election and American institutions to expand their global reach.

The analyst said developing such weapons is not going to help resolve the issues facing the United States.

At the hearing, he said, “we hear that China is posing a threat, that Russia is posing a threat, that North Korea is not denuclarzing, but what we hear also is that Iran is holding by the nuclear agreement” it signed with the world powers.

There is no “coherency” and the government is suffering due to “a stalemate” and its “inability to move forward or backward in terms of resolving all these international conflicts,” he added.
