Tehran, YJC. Ambassador says Russia is very willing to complete more projects at the Bushehr nuclear power plant.
Iran’s
Ambassador to Russia Mehdi Sanaee met the Deputy Head of Russia’s Rosatom State
Nuclear Energy Corporation Nikolai Spassky on Friday where the Russian officials
said the Bushehr power plant is of great significance for both Iranian and
Russian governments and nations.
Pointing to the two countries’ presidential
attempts to strengthen ties, Sanaee stated "The second phase of the Bushehr power
plant is on the agenda for both countries. It is decided that delegations make
visits in order to hold talks and investigate into the issue.”
In his turn, Spassky said Tehran and Moscow
are in the "working stage of discussing the option” of constructing a new unit
in Bushehr power plant.
Stressing that Russia endorses Iran’s
peaceful nuclear activities, he added "The operation of the Bushehr power plant
is highly important not only for the two governments, but for the two nations
as well. Despite all restrictions Russia accomplished the Bushehr power plant,
the first phase of which being operational is the proof to successful
cooperation between the two countries.”
Providing comments on the second phase of
the power plant to be launched he said "Two factors are important to us for
cooperation. The first is that such operations must be economically justified
for the sides. The second is that it should be in keeping with international
obligations and the domestic regulations of Iran and Russia.”
