Russian-Egyptian talks on regional and international issues are becoming particularly important, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said, opening a meeting with visiting Egyptian counterpart Nabil Fahmy here on Thursday.
Later the defence ministers of the two countries Sergey Shoigu and Abdel Fattah el-Sisi will join them.
"We are glad to welcome you today to continue talks that began yesterday," Lavrov said.
"After two-on-two talks were held for the first time in Cairo last November, we have passed a long way to fulfil our agreements, and ongoing meeting gives a good opportunity to sum up preliminary results," he noted.
Russia "is interested in relations based on many decades of sympathy and cooperation to develop in the future," he added.
The Russian foreign minister noted that bilateral agenda includes military-technical cooperation, economy and humanitarian cooperation.
"Certainly, talks on international and regional issues are becoming particularly important," Lavrov said.
"I am convinced that talks between the defence ministers and in the two-on-two format will make headway in all these issues," the Russian foreign minister noted.
