TEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) -Clinton, who ran against Trump in the 2016 presidential election, shared a video on Monday from a presidential debate in which she suggested Trump, the then-Republican Party’s nominee for president, was Moscow’s puppet.
"Like I said: A puppet," Clinton wrote on Twitter, amplifying a video of an October 2016 debate between her and Trump.
Trump in the debate said Putin “has no respect for this person,” pointing at Clinton.
"Well that’s because he’d rather have a puppet as president," Clinton responded.
“No puppet. No puppet," Trump interjected. "You’re the puppet.”
Clinton argued at the debate that Trump refused to acknowledge Russia’s alleged cyber attacks on the US, and that Trump shared a number of Putin's interests.
"You continue to get help from him because he has a very clear favorite in this race," Clinton said.
The New York Times reported Friday that the FBI became so concerned by Trump’s behavior in the days after he fired FBI director James Comey that agency began investigating whether the US president had been working for Russia against American interests.
The next day, The Washington Post reported that Trump has kept details of his meetings with Putin from top officials in his administration, including withholding notes from an interpreter.
The president initially called the reports "insulting" and "ridiculous" before offering a more direct denial on Monday.
“I never worked for Russia,” Trump angrily told reporters at the White House.
The heated response came after a journalist asked the president for comment about Times article.
An ongoing federal investigation is looking into alleged Russian meddling in the 2016 US presidential election and whether Trump’s campaign colluded with Moscow.
Trump has slammed the probe as baseless and has repeatedly denied any collusion with Russia to in an effort to defeat Clinton.
