Tehran, YJC. Italian cinematographer talks about his cooperation with Majidi on “Prophet Muhammad”.
Vittorio Straro who has filmed Majidi’s Prophet Muhammad took
the occasion in a cinematography workshop held in Tehran on Tuesday to talk
about his experience with the Iranian filmmaker.
"When I talked more with Majidi about project Muhammad I realized
that it was about humanity. Then I tried to make myself a way with light,” the Italian
cinematographer said.
Straro added "The artist usually walks a path alone. But it
is different with the director of photography, because he cannot walk the path
alone. He must do it with a skillful person. Fortunately I did this project
with Mjid Majidi, the same way I did with Coppola or Bertolucci.”
The filmmaker Majidi also remembering the days he contacted
Vittorio for work said "I contacted Straro via his agency. But I was told that
he was busy and could not respond. I had thought that I might not get access to
him. But after a week I received an email which started with the name of ‘Allah’
and ended with ‘الله نور السماوات و الارض’ [God is the light of heavens and the
earth, the Quran].”
