TEHRAN, Jan 5 - Iran head coach Carlos Queiroz says his team is not under pressure to win the 2019 AFC Asian Cup in the United Arab Emirates.
TEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) - Iran have won the AFC Asian Cup on three occasions - 1968, 1972 and 1976 - but that last triumph came 43 years ago.
Queiroz's Iran are the top-ranked Asian side in the FIFA world rankings. But the 53-year-old coach was quick to transfer the responsibility and pressure of winning the AFC Asian Cup competition to the likes of four-time winners Japan, defending champions Australia, and two-time champions South Korea.
The Portuguese tactician has led Iran to the FIFA World Cup twice in 2014 and 2018 - successes that have seen Iran climb to 29th in the world rankings.
Iran feature in Group D of the AFC Asian Cup where they will face Yemen in their opening match on Monday, before they take on Vietnam and Iraq.
